Edison boys volleyball team bounces back from their rough start with two new wins, on March 26th against Van Buren high school and the 31st against Jamaica High School.
The season started on March 5th with the first day of tryouts which ended March 6th concluding tryouts and marking the day of their first practice. The first game of the season was the 23rd of March against Bayside High School. This year the starters of the team consists of mostly juniors, a stark contrast to last year’s teams that consisted of mostly seniors.

Edrian Colon, returning team captain of this season supports the team not only emotionally, but physically, as their setter. On the 31st Edrian had 16 assists, making it possible for the team to score points against Jamaica High School.
“There’s a lot of expectations and pressure on me, especially coming as team captain since last season, but I look at it in a way that will help the team succeed,” Edrian stated.
Despite starting the season off with two losses the team doesn’t allow it to shake their confidence. Edison won 2-0 against both Van Buren and Jamaica High School. Ian Durrant, one of the teams middle blocker had several aces in both games, giving the team 3 through 5 points with just his serves alone.
In addition Makai Addison, a returning starter from last year who’s the team’s outside hitter this year, scored 10 kills in the game against Jamaica High School.
“Our team goes into every game with the confidence that we’ll win. Even if we’re losing in a set we try our best to keep our morale up. Obviously it doesn’t always go our way but overall our team tries our best to keep a good mindset because that’s what sport is all about,” Makai stated.

In order to make the playoffs the Edison boys need to win 5 games, with already winning 2 games the boys only need 3 more wins this season to make it to the playoffs. Pressure increases as the season comes to an end with only 4 more games left of the season.
“Our goal every year is to play the best brand of volleyball we could, we don’t want to walk away with regret. Our goal is just to make the playoffs, we need to make 5 games and we’ve gotten two out of 5 so far. We’re in a tough division. It’s hard to get 5 wins, despite that I think our team has a very good chance in that. We found our identity in how we play volleyball. In the past we may have wilted under pressure but I think this year we have been so consistent in our effort and play and I think that’s more than enough to get us to the playoffs,” Coach Ollivierre stated.
The teams final games this season will be against Bayside, Van Buren, Jamaica, and Cardozo high school for the remainder of April.
