If you’ve ever spent some time in Manhattan, odds are you’ve passed by Baked by Melissa. Placed at smart, busy locations, it is rather easy for you to fit in a visit the next time you take a trip to the city. You may have noticed them before or heard about the shop as it is pretty well known.
Baked by Melissa offers a small selection of food with a wide variety of flavors that may be limited for occasion or always available. What makes this company unique is that the food is bite-sized. Each cupcake or macaroon comes in a miniature size and gets packed in the most appealing way possible for you to enjoy.
Sure, it’s cute. Marketing is clearly something the business excels in. However, it didn’t take long to suddenly regret my purchases. Considering how small these treats are, it didn’t surprise me when I finished each of them quickly. Some flavors tasted great, Mint Chocolate and Snicker Doodle for example. Others were all right, but by the end of eating the taste did not overcome the fact that I had spent $9.00 to have what felt like 9 small samples that some other bakery might offer at a much lower price. It’s clear that the food here is unfairly priced, and while a dollar isn’t much, it is still more than what the price should be for such a small snack. Senior Vanessa Mangru stated “$1 for a tiny cupcake is unreasonable and not the necessary value for profit, but if customers still buy, what are they gonna do? Leave it and make good money.”
Senior Christina Veeria enjoys the shop and stated that she loves their small desserts. “They’re cute and tasty, and I’m always excited to have them whenever someone brings a box home. If I’m the one buying it though, I try not to get too many because they are pricy.” Eventually, packs of larger amounts do receive a reduction in price. Their website lists a 50-pack for $40 and a 100-pack for $80. Clearly, it’s nothing significant.
I recommend trying the place out, but just once, with a limited budget. Just be smart enough to not go back after if you care about spending wisely. You’re bound to find a bakery with reasonable prices and a just-as-tasty or even better menu.
