The new Netflix Original Series, “Wednesday,” has taken everyone by storm. “Wednesday” is a coming-of-age, supernatural comedy-horror based on the character Wednesday Addams from the original Addams Family Cartoons. The eight episode series premiered on November 23, 2022 and based on its popularity, season two could possibly be in the works. The series is rated 4.8 out of 5 and has a 71% Rotten Tomatoes rating.
The series stars former Disney Channel actress, Jenna Ortega as the creepy and kooky main character and namesake of the series, Catherine Zeta- Jones as Morticia Addams, Luis Guzman as Gomez Addams, and Isaac Ordonez as Pugsley. The show follows Wednesday as she attends Nevermore Academy as a new student, her inititial escape attempts, and her resolve to give the school a chance as a mystery presents itself.
In an interview with one of Edison’s own teachers, Ms. Inderjeit, we gained a new perspective on the show itself. Ms Inderjeit, who had binge-watched the show when it first premiered comments on the focus on Wednesday herself.
“I love that we have a focus on Wednesday’s story, as her character has always been my favorite. The new show allows us to get to know her personality, background, and relationships.”
The length of the episodes was also a topic of discussion amongst critics.
“The episode length is around 45 minutes for each. There are some slower moments in the show, however once the action picks up, it is engaging.”
Many agree that the show gives them a sense of nostalgia. The Addams Family is a cult classic and people are delighted to see a newer rendition of the lovable characters. While filming “Wednesday” Jenna Ortega was able to work with her predecessor, Christina Ricci. Ricci, who played Wednesday Addams 31 years ago is now Marilyn Thornhill, Nevermore’s only “normie” teacher.
Add “Wednesday” to your Netflix queue and be on the lookout for season two!
