As the class of 2022, we seniors can tell you first-hand how stressful the college process can be. When applying to colleges the question “Do I even need college?” runs through our heads a lot. When you are put into this situation it makes you realize that you need to have a plan after high school. You feel as if you were not prepared for this moment and that you do not know what you want to do for the rest of your life. 

As someone who knows what they want to do, I know that college is absolutely necessary for me. In order to become a Registered Nurse, I have to get my BSN. Other people may want to start their own business or become real estate agents, or electricians. You do not need college to become successful but you do need a plan. 

When people do not know exactly what they want to do it is advised to go to a community school while they figure it out. According to Mrs. Martinez, our college advisor, going to a community college where the tuition is less money is the best plan for someone who does not know what they want to do. “ When someone tells me that they don’t know what they want to do I recommend going to a community college because most careers do require a degree. The probability of the career they choose would require a college degree.”

“I’ve set a lot of deadlines, and for those students who don’t meet them it can be out of laziness but most of the time it is because of confusion.” When students don’t make up their minds, they tend to procrastinate and leave everything for the last minute. 

I think that this advice is helpful because it is very true. In the world that we live in, most of the stable jobs out there do require some type of higher education and experience. Going to a two-year college can help you find your passion and make your decision much clearer or it can prove to you that college is not for you at all. 

So to answer the question, College is only necessary based on your plans for yourself. It depends on how you see your future. You do not need college in order to be successful or to make money. You can get a job without a degree but at the end of the day you have to be happy with the decision and job you have.
