Interested in joining a club this year? Don’t know which one to choose? Check out some of the new clubs that were formed this school year. New York City Explorers Club, Graphic Design Club, and Green Thumb Society are just a few.

If you’re a student interested in discovering the hidden gems of New York City or exploring new places in NYC, then the New York City Explorers club is a good club for you to join. 

“The main point of our meetings is to discuss places, especially places which not many people know about,” said Co-founder and Vice President of the club, Prantik Barua. “If we get people’s votes on one of the places, we try to make a trip for us to visit.”

In addition to discussing places around New York City, the club plays games like trivia to get members engaged and to test their knowledge. NYC Explorers Club meets every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month in room 103A after 8th period. Don’t be afraid to stop by for the next meeting.

The next new club that you may want to check out is the Graphic Design Club. Founded by Faiza Mohamed, the Graphic Design Club aims to “inspire creativity, collaboration, and growth among high school students interested in graphic design.”

“At our last meeting, we got into groups and designed posters for one of our favorite movies,” said vice president of the Graphic Design club, Nicolas Diaz. “At another meeting, we designed our names on a piece of paper and filled it with things we like to do.”

If this seems like something you’re interested in being a part of, Graphic Design Club meets every other Monday in room 217, after 9th period. 

The last new club that you should know about is Green Thumb Society, a gardening club. President of the club, Mahiat (May) Noor, created Green Thumb Society (GTS) to preserve the relationship between humans and our surroundings. She believes in the importance for youth to “develop a profound relationship with their environment.”

“We’ve prioritized addressing fundraising before diving into the soil to ensure adequate funding for our projects,” Noor said. “In our last meeting, members were given the option to choose what indoor plants they would like to grow, and collectively, we’ve decided to grow a Bonsai.

Green Thumb Society is the perfect club for you if you’d like to get in touch with your “green” side. They meet every 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month.
