The NBA All-Star game finally returned this year after the league was forced to shut down due to the pandemic. In this year’s all star game we got to see the usual players as well as many new faces.
The All-Star captains selected for this year were Lebron James and Kevin Durant. For team Lebron the all star starters were Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, Luka Doncic, and Nikola Jokic. For Team Durant the starters were Bradley Beal, Kyrie Irving, Kawhi Leonard, and Joel Embiid. Many All-Stars made their first appearance, such as Jalen Brown, Mike Conley, and Zion Williamson. Frequent All stars also made their return this year.
“Players I’m excited to see in the All-Star game this year are Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown,” said Mr. Holt. “I have been a Celtics fan since I was old enough to watch and understand basketball.”
This year’s All-Star game came while we all are trying to return to normal. Though there were no fans in the arenas and certain players missed the game due to covid regulations. Some believed that this year there shouldn’t have been an all star game but that would result in a loss of revenue.
“I have never really liked the All-star games because it is all a show,” said Mr. Holt “Players do not try hard in these games like they should. They could have done without it this year.”
“I think that this all star game was created with good intentions but it didn’t help during this time,” said Keon Akel a senior at edison. “The all star game felt different, and a large portion of the all star weekend is seeing the crowd and player reactions, without it there’s something missing. It made me feel less fulfilled than the previous years and enforced the fact that things are different now.”
