Serendipity 3 is said to have been New York City’s number one desert destination, especially for their famous frozen hot chocolate.
But is it really number one or just another one of New York City’s overrated restaurants? Located at 225 E 60th St, New York, NY 10022, Serendipity 3 is stationed at a small area underground. They are known for their iconic desserts that have tourists from all around the world ready to satisfy their sweet tooth.
Their black and white old-fashioned menus are filled with desserts ranging in price from as little as $9.95 to as high as $25.50. To some that might be pricey.
They also serve different varieties of “serious food” like casseroles, sandwiches, and pasta.
At Serendipity, I ordered what they are known for, the legendary frozen hot chocolate that was priced at $13.95. For the size of the drink, it was suitable to share, however, it tasted like any other hot chocolate. Aside from the frozen component and presentation, it was comparable to a beverage that you could get at Dunkin’ Donuts or Starbucks.
Tamera Bruno, a customer at Serendipity 3, described her opinion on the frozen hot chocolate, “For $13.95, I think the size is appropriate, but I expected the taste to be better.” She then went on to say, “It was good but there was nothing really that special to it once you get past their presentation.”
Caitlyn Moore, another customer at Serendipity 3, stated, “Based on what I have seen and tried, I do think Serendipity 3 is exaggerated. You can get just as good quality meals for cheaper at other places, or spend the same amount of money and get better quality meals at places, such as Max Brenner or Black Tap.”
The service was great. I arrived and was seated immediately. The waitress came, took my order and my drink was brought out in less than 5 minutes. The setting was very calming, making the customers feel cozy like they are at home, with the decorations aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
Overall, based on my experience I would visit Serendipity 3 again, but only to try out some of the entrees they carry. I liked how welcoming the staff was and how quick the service was, but the frozen hot chocolate didn’t live up to the hype.
