The world of anime stretches to different genres, and categories, but are some of the new anime really worth the binge? “Demon Slayer” also known as “Kimetsu no Yaiba” is an anime consisting of 26 episodes, based off of a Japanese manga written and illustrated by Koyoharu Gotōge.
The anime begins with a young boy by the name of Tanjiro Kamado who comes home to find his family taken from him, and takes a vow of protecting his little sister Nezuko. Nezuko was turned into a demon, by the same demon who slaughtered their family. Tanjiro vows to take down the demon who once killed his family, by becoming a demon slayer. He joins the Demon Slayer Corps to follow this promise. In doing so, he has his sister to fight alongside him. However, according to demon slayer rules fighting alongside a demon is largely banned, so this must be done in secret.
Throughout the anime, Tanjiro and Nezuko go on journeys to defeat any demons in their way as well as attempting to find the culprit of their family’s murder. As he goes on this journey, he meets other demon slayers to fight alongside including Zenitsu and Inosuke.
In this anime, demons are portrayed as regular humans, however they have bloodlust which means they prey on other humans. Additionally, the demons cannot come into contact with direct sunlight otherwise they will be unable to heal and regenerate.
From the beginning of the anime, to the last episode we are able to see Tanjiro grow as a person. He becomes fearless against demons and begins to try and understand them more. Additionally, we are able to see his persistence whilst training to fight demons. He transforms from a weakling lacking technique, to a trained demon slayer who was very strong and agile.
We are also able to see the power of Tanjiro and Nezuko’s relationship. Nezuko fought against her cravings of feasting on humans if it meant she could help Tanjiro. Tanjiro risked everything by choosing to watch over Nezuko and carry her alongside him in battles. The nine pillars (an elitist group of demon slayers) were instructed by Kagaya Ubuyashiki (the demon slayer corps leader) to watch over Nezuko and ensure that she didn’t seem to pose as a threat to humanity.
At the end of the anime, Tanjiro and Nezuko are able to fight alongside each other against demons and restore peace to humanity. Beginning with a journey on the Infinite Train Arc, led by Rengoku, one of the nine pillars. This journey poses as a test to the nine pillars to see if Tanjiro and Nezuko can really coexist and fight alongside each other. The season ends at the point in which the characters depart, leading up to the new movie soon to be released in the coming year.
