As seniors are committing to their desired colleges, Edison provides students with an opportunity to show off their hard work through a Decision Day.
On June 3rd, some of the guidance counselors helped set up a stand in the courtyard, where students can take pictures and sign their colleges.
The stand consisted of photo booth frames, a large poster with students signing their names and colleges, cutouts to pose with for pictures, and mini water bottles. Students were allowed to enter the courtyard starting from 4th period to the end of the day. Many students chose to participate in decision day by wearing their merch that has their college name on it.
“People want to feel like they are a part of the community and they see their friends wearing the college merch and feel proud about where they are going to,” senior Kenneth Hafford said.
However, some students chose to not participate in the event, but they still attended the event to sign their name and college. For some colleges, they do not have merchandise that is easily accessible to students.
“Some people think it may be a silly thing or they are not proud of the college they are going to, even when college is a great accomplishment itself,” senior Angelina Lynch said.
Many students might also feel like their college’s merchandise does not suit their personal style or it may be very expensive.
“People who would commute from very far might choose to order online which may become very expensive due to shipping since it varies,” senior Kenneth Hafford said.
There was a photographer who was going around and taking pictures for the students with a professional camera. All of the pictures were later stored in a Google Drive for students to have access to it.
“This was a very nice end of the year event because it really brought together many people and they were able to learn and be proud of where each and everyone was going,” senior Sharfa Hassan said.
