Netflix’s most popular romance TV show released the first part of its newest season a few weeks ago, and fans have very mixed opinions about it.
Part one of Bridgerton season 3 mainly focuses on Penelope Featherington and her new desire to find a husband, in hopes of gaining some escape from her chaotic family. Colin Bridgerton, one of Penelope’s oldest friends, offers to help Penelope find a husband, but things quickly get complicated when Colin starts to catch feelings for her.
When it comes to the plot of season 3, it was a solid 9/10. Being able to see more of Penelope and her journey of finding a match made it interesting, as her character was usually in the background for the past two seasons.
This season’s romance trope is also what made the plot one of the best so far. The last two seasons follow the “fake-dating” trope and “enemies to lovers” trope while this season was more of a “friends to lovers” trope, which is one of the best tropes in my opinion.
One aspect of the show that could have been better was the pacing; it felt rushed. For example, this season, Penelope and Colin are already together while in previous seasons, the main couple gets together towards the end of the season and takes a while to realize their feelings for each other.
In summary, there wasn’t a lot of buildup to their relationship. The fast pacing could be a good thing, however, because it keeps you on your toes wondering if Colin will figure out Penelope’s secret, in part two, and how that will affect their relationship.
When it comes to the acting in season three, I would rate it a 10/10. Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington and Luke Newton, who plays Colin Bridgerton had a lot of on-screen chemistry and are very talented actors. However, when it came to the characters they played, I’d rate it a 8/10. Penelope Featherington was even more likable this season because of her newfound confidence and character development.
Colin Bridgerton, on the other hand, I felt the opposite. He had a more likable personality in the previous seasons than this season. While he stayed the same kind-hearted person, it seemed like writers tried too hard to make him come across as “charming,” and that made him unlikable at times.
Lastly, the soundtrack of season three was a 10/10. One of Bridgertons best aspects is their classic covers of popular songs from modern times. Some of the songs that were classically covered this season were: “Happier Than Ever,” by Billie Eilish, “Jealous,” by Nick Jonas, “Give Me Everything,” by Pitbull, and “Dynamite,” by BTS.
Overall, I’d rate Bridgertons newest season an 8.5/10 because while it had a really good soundtrack and an interesting plot, it felt rushed. Part 2 of season 3 is live on Netflix June 13th.
