On Thursday, May 29, Edison seniors defeated teachers and staff in a Seniors vs. Staff volleybrawl game, with student spectators cheering on both sides.
“I think we have a good shot. I mean, you know, the staff are a little rusty, but I think the seniors are probably going to come with a win today. If we don’t, you know, it’s all fun” said senior player Gena Shepard in a pre-game interview.
“I just spent the last couple of months being around volleyball all the time, taking over as varsity coach, and I know what I’m up against, but I’m ready to embrace the challenge just like last year,” said boys volleyball coach and staff player Mr. Burdick during a pregame interview.

Students easily took the first set, keeping a fairly consistent lead throughout. The final score of the first set was 25 to 16, for students.
During the second set, students narrowly beat out the staff once again with a final score of 25 to 23. Winning in volleyball means winning best out of three sets, meaning that students won at this point. Because it was a game for fun and entertainment, the teams decided to continue and play a third set.
The third set was an exciting match in which the staff team held a lead for a while. Towards the end, Senior Tenzin Lama got 4 serving aces in a row, making the teachers’ lead much narrower. In the end, the staff team still won the third set but lost the game.
“Mr. O, when he blocked Tenzin and Harjap, that was insane,” said senior player Hao Lin.
“This is one of the best events of the end of the year,” said staff player Mr. Burdick.
“Wrapping up senior year with a volleyball game like this was truly amazing. I loved how it went, even with all the little fights and the redos. I’m just happy I got to experience playing volleyball here at Edison, and with a team like this, so supportive and working together,” said senior Elma Rudmila after the game.
