Bus routes throughout Queens will be changing routes starting this summer in an effort to provide faster service.
The MTA aims to do this by having buses make fewer turns, removing stops that are close together, and changing bus frequencies during certain times. Some bus routes will become ‘Rush Routes,’ a new type of service that runs primarily during rush hour designed to help better connect people to subway and railroad stations.
The changes will be implemented in two phases, with routes on the eastern side of Queens, including Jamaica and Flushing, changing on June 29th of this year. The second phase, covering western Queens, will be implemented August 31st of this year.
The 165th St bus terminal moved a block away to 168th St and 90th Ave on June 1st, a month before the first phase of the bus redesign is scheduled to go into effect. All routes moved to the new interim terminal while the 165th St terminal is redeveloped. Once the redevelopment is complete, the MTA intends for the terminal to move back to 165th St.

Q65

The Q65 will remain unchanged from the Jamaica LIRR station to Edison, which is one of the most common routes for students commuting to school. In Flushing, the Q65 will run along Sandford Ave instead of 45th Ave to eliminate one turn. It will end at Flushing Main St and Roosevelt Ave instead of continuing on to College Point. If you need to get to College Point, you can transfer to the Q26, which will replace the College Point section of the Q65 route.
Q46

Union Turnpike will be getting a major revamp with two new routes being added to the street, the Q45 and Q48. The Q46 and Q48 will run together as rush routes for most of their trips down Union Turnpike, skipping many stops between the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike subway station and 188th St before running local. Far east on 260th St, the two buses will split, with the Q48 turning onto 260th street to serve Glen Oaks and the Q46 continuing on Union Turnpike to serve the Long Island Jewish Hospital as it does now. The all-new Q45 will serve as the local bus where the Q46 and Q48 will be running express. It will run local from the Kew Gardens-Union Turnpike subway station and continue down Union Turnpike before turning north to go a few blocks down 188th St.
Q43

The Q43 along Hillside Ave will become a rush route from the Jamaica Long Island Rail Road Station until Braddock Ave before running local. For local service along Hillside Ave, you will be able to use the Q1, Q3, or Q76. While wait times for the Q43 will be going up, they will be supplemented by shorter wait times for the Q1.
Q1

The Q1 will mostly maintain the same routing, but it will continue further west down to Sutphin Blvd and Jamaica Ave instead of ending at the 168th street terminal. On the eastern end of the route, it will only run along Braddock Ave and will not go down Springfield Blvd and Jamaica Ave anymore. The route will no longer connect to the Queens Village Long Island Rail Road Station. Along Springfield Boulevard and Jamaica Avenue, service will be replaced by the Q36 and Q110. Wait times will be reduced as it is serving as the local counterpart to the Q43 along Hillside Ave.
Q110

Substantial changes are coming to the Q110, with the bus continuing along Jamaica Ave/Jericho Turnpike up to the border of Queens and Long Island rather than turning onto Hempstead Ave. The part-time loop up to Hillside Ave will also be eliminated. Wait times will be slightly better during the early morning and slightly worse during the morning peak, afternoon peak, and evening. For service along Hempstead Ave, you will be able to catch the Q82 from the bus terminal on 168th St.
Q31

The Q31 will be changed on the Jamaica end and on the Bayside end. In Jamaica, Bayside-bound buses will run east along Archer Ave and Jamaica-bound buses will run west along Jamaica Ave. In Bayside, the Q31 will no longer go down 32nd Ave and will instead continue further north along Bell Blvd and terminate at the Bay Terrace Mall.
Q30

The Q30 will run as a rush route on the southern end of the route in Jamaica and along Utopia Parkway before running local along Horace Harding Expressway. Wait times will be shortened during the morning and longer during the afternoon and late evening. The Q30 will no longer do the loop up to Queensborough Community College and will instead continue straight along Horace Harding Expressway. To get service directly to Queensborough Community College, you will be able to take the Q27, Q74, or Q75.
Q77

The Q77 will run as a rush route along Hillside Ave before running local along Francis Lewis and Springfield Blvd. On the southern end of the route by JFK Airport, the Q77 will no longer go in a loop on north and south Conduit Avenues and will instead be extended further south along Springfield Blvd before turning west onto 147th Ave. Wait times will stay roughly the same.
Q112

The Q112 will stay on the same route on the east end of the route around Parsons Blvd but will be extended along Stutter Ave and Pitkin Ave into Brooklyn. It will connect to the Grant Ave and Euclid Ave train stations, allowing for connections to the A and C trains.
