Since its first film adaptation in 2012, The Hunger Games has become one of the biggest movie series in modern time. As any novel-based money-making franchise does nowadays, Mockingjay, being the final book in the trilogy, was split into two films. While it didn’t really have to be this way, fans who look at the bright side are treated to an extra film.
Fans of the book series by Suzanne Collins and fans acquired through the successful film have watched as victims battle through the system enforced by the Capitol of Panem. From her first survival match to her heartfelt revolution against Panem, Jennifer Lawrence has given life to the amazing heroine that is Katniss Everdeen. In a time where feminism and the power of women are important topics, the portrayal of Katniss has been a significantly impressive performance on Lawrence’s part. Josh Hutcherson, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks and Donald Sutherland are also part of the acclaimed cast.
There were really two main ways that the final installment could be received by viewers. One for invested fans, and another for the viewer who just wants to see a good movie. Big fans of The Hunger Games would definitely enjoy Mockingjay Part 2, appreciating its truth to the novel with some new detail. However, the film does lack some pace and any viewer can criticize it for giving some major characters too little screen time. Mockingjay Part 2 is a wrap-up film and not a perfect, but satisfying, dark conclusion to the series.
